Why does he act thie way?

When my ex-guy friend calls he basically has nothing to say....He calls me like every month and i guess just tp keep in touch but he hardly says anything ...when i try to call hin mack his phone willl click off accidentally..what? We use to date but now we are friends ...i guess ..IDk....He only calls to see if I talk about him alot
