Question about pruning Crepe Myrtles ???

I had my crepe myrtles pruned by cutting off the lower branches so that they grow more like trees rather than bushes. If you have treated your trees for the fungus, why don't you wait and see how they fair this spring? Seems to me it would be kind of a shame to take them down to a foot tall. You might also want to fertilize them.
