What to do about last minute guests?

My brother and his wife didn't tell us whether or not they were going to go out of town to see his dad for Christmas or if they were coming to my moms. We umed since they evaded the subject that they just didn't want to tell us that they were going out of town, therefore we didn't get them very much for Christmas. In fact some of my siblings didn't get them anything at all, and now we are nearly broke. We just found out today, my mom had to finally call them and ask, they are coming. Any ideas? They have 4 boys ages 5, 3, 2, and 6 months.
