Mortal kombat storyline confusion?

Im really confused about the mortal kombat storyline and would appreciate help, i have a few questions i need answered, In mortal kombat conquest when Shao kahn wins is that the end of all the Mortal kombat storyline forever and also in mortal kombat conquest who are the characters who die and survive and in Mortal kombat rebirth it says that there is shang tsung's tournament but shang tsun was already killed, would appreciate help
